"My mother thinks me, therefore I am."

& A.R.T

Our own trauma enables us to empathize! My clinical experience spans a span of 30 years, during which I have encountered people in a variety of roles, whether as patients, friends, colleagues, mentors, students, trainees. What unites them is that they were all teachers to me and contributed to who I am. They all helped me construct and develop A.R.T. with the central question. "Can empathy be learned?"

Many people I meet take me by the hand and lead me back into all the meanings of my life story. Each passing through my experiences opens me a new understanding about the other by finding him in me. Human life is not characterized by symptoms, but by the individual experiences of its past, which unfold in the here and now and lead us into the future. A.R.T. is a phenomenological-contextual approach in which understanding through empathy is at the center of the encounter. Life unfolds in every encounter and gives us the possibility to wring meaning from our experience.

& A.R.T.

I got to know A.R.T. and Dr. Johann Steinberger in the course of my basic training as a psychiatric health care worker and nurse. Early on, A.R.T. helped me to deconstruct difficult experiences of my training, such as the suicide of a patient, and thus to process them in a meaningful way. In the course of my work at the University Hospital for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Dr. Steinberger accompanied me as a supervisor and then I decided to take A.R.T. out into the world and make it tangible for as many people as possible. Dr. Steinberger still supports me today as a supervisor in my management activities at EMPOWERMENTE and together we want to do something against the massive psychological stress of our time. With the A.R.T. Academy, we want to take a decisive step towards strengthening humanistic thinking and reinforcing competencies in psychiatric health care and nursing with content from psychotherapy science.
